close your eyes, my little one was born out of a creative drought I had been having since the end of 2024. This drought was broken when I returned to wind ensemble and we started working on Alex Shapiro’s Immersion symphony. I found Alex’s use of electronics very innovative and moving, so naturally I decided I wanted to try to write an electro-acoustic piece. At this point, I had been reflecting a lot on the passage of time, and how quickly it is moving, particularly over the last 20 years, which also happens to be my whole lifetime! I began thinking about my childhood and one thing that immediately came to me was my nan’s lullaby, which acts as the main theme for the piece, alongside the lullaby my parents used to sing me. The electronics entwine together to create a wave of nostalgia, but also a harsh reminder of the cruelness of time.
